ESG The New Corporate Mantra for TMB Moving Forward

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) refers to how the same company manages itself in three dimensions - Environmental, Social and Governance and forms one of the major themes in the 12th Malaysia Plan which is on advancing sustainability, with Malaysia being committed to becoming a carbon-neutral nation by 2050.

ESG issues is an important factor to investors, and in the face of a pandemic and economic downturn, companies embarking on this journey are likely to be more resilient in the face of unexpected shocks and hardships if they are managed for the long term and in line with societal mega trends, such as climate change, resource scarcity, technological breakthrough, etc.

ESG as part of its business DNA within its Group principle activities ie Plantation in Durian and Pineapple cultivation via Ladang Lembah Klau and Rompine Integrated Pineapples businessess and and Township Development via KotaSAS.

In addition, TMB is embarking together with RAM Sustainability Sdn Bhd in assessing our ESG readiness and improvements for all of our existing Group business operations.

ESG is often a very good proxy for assessing a company’s quality of management, which is critically important in a crisis. Businesses with high-quality leadership tend to place a greater importance on their role in society and are more likely to prioritize ESG in its business operations, as well as workplace safety and employee well-being. In short, TMB’s future ability to navigate environmental and societal disruptions, combined with governance practices, will have a profound effect on its ability to mitigate downside risk and create long-term value to its shareholders, stakeholders and business operations.
